Top 10 Travel Items: Global Minimalist Ultralight Travel for Entrepreneurs in 2021

As I anticipate future travel since the COVID-19 vaccine, I reviewed my gear to see what worked best from my last big trip. Often when I travel, I combine business with some adventure. My last big trip to New Zealand for 3+ weeks, and included business meetings and working on strategic planning and goal setting, in addition to disconnecting in the warm, beautiful environment through hiking, cycling, horseback riding and exploring. From working at airports, to adventuring, there were a few items that I really appreciated having and will continue to pack!

For 2021 travel, I have added N-95 masks and travel size hand sanitizer to my list.

As I reviewed my packing list, here are the 10 most important things that I packed as an ultra light entrepreneur:

  1. Samsung Galaxy Tab Tablet: I used this every day to journal, check email, read books borrowed from my library on Overdrive, document strategic plans, watch movies and Youtube, and take notes. (Hulu and Prime did not work internationally for videos) - FYI to global travelers.

  2. Osprey Farpoint 40 Backpack: This pack has now traveled with me to 6 countries and is light, durable, carry-on legal and very comfortable to use. I often wore the backpack straps which also fold up and their is a shoulder strap that makes getting on and off a plane easier. Osprey is a great company that guarantees there packs for life, so if I ever have a problem, they will repair or replace it free of charge.

  3. Bose Noise Canceling headphones - earbuds: I used these frequently during all flights and some car rides when I was a passenger, to listen to audio books and podcasts (downloaded from my US public library).

  4. Salomon XA Pro GTX trail sneakers - These shoes kept my feet dry in rain, and were very supportive during both hikes to the base of Mt. Cook, as well as urban adventures through Auckland and Wellington. They fit very well also!

  5. Outdoor Research Seattle Sombrero Sun/ Rain hat: This hat doubled as a sombrero for rainy days, as well as a sun hat. It is waterproof and breathable, in addition to providing a great fit for my small head. A big benefit is the chin strap that kept the hat on my head in all types in weather and during a windy day of sailing.

  6. TRTL travel pillow: This trip was the first time I used this pillow. It allowed me to sleep comfortably on a 12+ hour flight between LA and New Zealand without leaning on my neighbor from the middle seat. It is lightweight, and I am able to remove the fleece cover to wash it between trips.

  7. Polar Bike water bottle (20 oz): This water bottle is lightweight and insulated keeping tea warm, and iced beverages cold. It is easy to clean, and fit well for cycling, horseback riding, tramping (hiking), and on the airplane. I appreciated having the loop at the top of the lid to allow me to attach it to my day pack without worrying that it would fall out.

  8. Sea to Summit Ultra Sil Nano Dry Bag: This multi use item is one that I take on all trips. I can wash laundry in my dry bag, use it to keep my electronics dry if it rains, or keep my gear dry if I'm on the water kayaking. You can also fill it up with air and use it as a pillow or store dirty laundry to isolate odors in your luggage.

  9. Seal Line See Pouch Waterproof passport case: This handy little case held my passport and some money for the trip, is waterproof, can clip to a belt, and has a small strap so I could put it around my neck to keep it on my person during travels.

  10. N-95 masks and Hand Sanitizer: To be worn on all public transportation and all public areas.

TELL ME WHAT YOU THINK. WHAT DO YOU PACK FOR ULTRALIGHT BUSINESS TRAVEL? I SPENT A LOT OF TIME WRITING THIS STORY, SO IF YOU ENJOYED IT, PLEASE CONSIDER SHARING, AND LEAVE A COMMENT OR QUESTION AT THE BOTTOM OF THIS STORY. I’D REALLY APPRECIATE IT!
