Sarah Scala Consulting partnered with MindEdge Learning as a subject matter expert on Team Creativity, Innovation, and Employee Performance. I was interviewed to produce video content about specific topics that were incorporated into their online learning courses for MindEdge’s clients. For the course focused on Innovation in Teams and Organizations, Creativity was defined as the generation of new ideas, while Innovation was defined as commercialization of those ideas to create value. This is part of a blog series about this project.

What benefit does creating independent teams or Skunk Works in large organizations bring? I worked for a business at a former company that was the Skunk Works of Human Resources. We focused on team and leadership development and our processes and rules of play were more flexible than corporate HR. We were able to take risks and try new things with clients to see what worked and test ideas. Establishing an independent team or skunk works promotes innovation that can sometimes be smothered in a corporate hierarchy environment or culture.
